BRISTOL MUSIC WEEKLY

New Bristol Music: 2–9 October 2026

2 Oct — 9 Oct 2026

Bristol’s music keeps moving in every direction this week: jungletek from Matt Scratch, a new LOVE & RAGE instalment from Diz Undone, pop punk from Pocket and an album from Treemask that we’re keen to spend more time with. There are also new singles, label selections and a few records to put on the horizon — each clearly separated from older discoveries.

Release of the Week

Matt Scratch“Kingswood High Street (JTM7)”

Our independent release of the week comes from Matt Scratch, whose Bristol project centres on fast four-to-the-floor drums, chopped amen breaks and heavy bass. Kingswood High Street (JTM7) joins his Jungletek Mafia Tunes collection: a local title attached to his own blend of tek and drum-and-bass influences.

Record of the Week

Diz Undone“DFAAN”

Our record of the week is DFAAN, the fifth instalment of Diz Undone’s LOVE & RAGE project. Vocals, guitar and production come from Diz, with drums, percussion and synth from Ben Brown; the Bandcamp package includes dirty and radio versions alongside three earlier project tracks.

Independent releases

Mothra Molasses“Death in Sagra”

Death in Sagra is a two-and-a-half-minute cut from Mothra Molasses’ YOGHURT release. The Bristol artist places the project in experimental hip-hop and lo-fi beat territory. Released on 5 October, it offers a compact entry point into that beat-led catalogue.

Mike Cosford“Akasa – One Night In My Life v Leftfield – Song of Life (Mike Cosford Edit)”

Mike Cosford returns to the 1990s house music that shaped his DJ career, pairing Akasa’s One Night In My Life with Leftfield’s Song of Life in a new edit. The 8 October release also includes a separate Akasa edit. This is a Bristol producer’s reworking of existing recordings, rather than a newly written original single.

Independent releases

Stateofunrest“Big Lies and Fairy Tales”

The Bristol political-rock project returns with a ten-track album released on 8 October. Big Lies and Fairy Tales joins songs including Rats and Maggots, Children of the Future and Deep State Blues. Its framing fits the project’s longstanding interest in free radio and political dissent.

US + THEM reworks S.P.Y’s Step & Flow for Hospital Records, with the remix arriving on 8 October. The Bristol-based S.P.Y’s catalogue spans dark drum and bass, jungle and liquid influences; this four-minute-forty cut adds a fresh remix to that body of work.

Singles and selections

SCALER“Spiral / Reflex”

Spiral is the new single from SCALER’s forthcoming four-track Reflex release. The Bristol band describes these tracks as a response to Endlessly, written together in the room with their machines and focused on a more immediate, live approach. Singles and selections

Karabin“Sonar”

Karabin’s Sonar is part of Couch Potatoes: Batch 1, the new selection from Bristol’s Sofa Sound label. The five-minute-nineteen track landed on 8 October and also has its own Spotify single page. A new selection from DLR’s Bristol-born drum-and-bass label.

Official artwork for Pocket — Permanent War / Pocket
Singles and selections

Pocket“Permanent War / Pocket”

Permanent War comes from Pocket’s self-titled album, released on 5 October. The Bristol pop-punk band’s two-minute-thirty-seven track is a useful starting point, but this is also one to explore as a full album. The group’s official page places its sound across pop punk, garage and punk rock.

Official artwork for rippy — Controlla / MOVE012
Singles and selections

rippy“Controlla / MOVE012”

rippy’s three-track MOVE012 brings YE, CONTROLLA and DOMUS to MOVE SILENT, with artwork by HERB and mastering by Mike Millrain. The label frames it as a twisted garage selection. Released on 2 October, the EP opens this edition’s date range with a Bristol producer’s garage selection.

Official artwork for Drone — Bound / What Comes Next EP
Singles and selections

Drone“Bound / What Comes Next EP”

Bound arrived on Spotify on 8 October ahead of Drone’s four-track What Comes Next EP on 1985 Music. The full release follows on 15 October and includes Chaos Reigns In Two, What Comes Next and Dynamo with GLM. The supplied Spotify link is Bound, rather than the EP’s title track.

Official artwork for B of Briz — A Lyrical Fash Bash
Singles and selections

B of Briz“A Lyrical Fash Bash”

B of Briz’s eleven-track A Lyrical Fash Bash brings her feminist rap into a wider discussion of anti-fascism, anti-racism and social justice. The Bristol artist combines synths and 808s with piano, cello and harmonica, while collaborator L contributes melodies and piano across much of the record. Fried green tomatoes at the HMRC is the linked Spotify selection.

Singles and selections

Idle Means“Little Number / Cruise Control EP”

The 18-track album moves between drum and bass, dubstep, garage and more experimental electronic forms, with vocal guests including Killa P, LaMeduza, Olivia Rose and Vanessa. Spotify dates 2003 to 21 August, so it is an album preview rather than a new single this week.

WEEKLY SELECTION

From the archive

Official artwork for Heavy Lungs — Measure EP
From the archive

Heavy Lungs“Measure EP”

A pick from the archive rather than a new release: Heavy Lungs’ five-track Measure EP dates to October 2019. The Bristol band’s garage and post-punk roots run through the selection, and BMW’s pick is (A bit of a) Birthday — an absolute banger and a good reason to revisit the record.

BMW at Dan Swift — Still Colouring Tour

We were at Zed Alley on Thursday 8 October for Dan Swift’s Still Colouring Tour opening night, and it was a really good one. The Newcastle–Bristol link-up was a highlight, with Bristol support artists Stargirrl, JOSHWAH and Tighe firmly on our radar as rising stars. We loved seeing those scenes come together and there is more to come in that space. Our review and photos are on the way.
